Do you still need a Website in 2016?

Getting a website for your small business or company can be a daunting experience for some entrepreneurs. The variety of options available and the increasing offerings from all corners of the web can make any new business owner scared.

With so many options and strategies to pursue many entrepreneurs question the need of having their own site. Most people consider having instead just an instagram account or just a Facebook page and start from there.

But that probably isn’t the best approach.

While that’s certain a valid strategy this strategy usually view Instagram or Facebook as “marketplaces” instead of what they’re meant to be: online social gatherings.

Imagine you make good bracelets and want to sell them. Starting out with an instagram account or a Facebook page is not bad but it feels a little like going to the bar to meet some friends and start offering bracelets right there. It’s odd and might be annoying for your friends, mostly because, it’s not the place.

If you want to sell bracelets to your friends in the bar you tell them about what you’re doing, you ask them about how they’ve been, you talk, share and have fun and then invite them over to your house or store if they want to check out what you’re selling.

Social Networks are for sharing, talking, being a real person; and that house/store where you sell stuff, in the digital world, that’s your website.

Having your own domain and website, for as small as it might be projects an image of reliability, compromise and helps you centralize your entire online marketing strategy. It gives you a home online.

Facebook, Twitter and instagram are great places to talk, share. But if you want to sell you need your own spot in the marketplace. And that starts by having your website and can expand to having your own online store, or listing in craigslist, eBay, Etsy or anywhere else.

You should also build a Facebook page or an instagram page to offer your products, but that link should go to your home, your website.

If you’re serious about having a business online, you need your our domain, your own Headquarters online where you tell people what you do and where to buy from you.

Luckily getting your own unique website is now easier than ever with tools like WordPress, Squarespace, Wix and many more. But these tools might be daunting for you if you’re not into design a development.

That’s why you should consider getting a professional to develop for you with a unique custom website using those own tools to help you setup your site and then you can take it from there.

And welcome to your own digital HQ.
